When she was initially inspired by the shadows she saw on the grass of the trees She worked over a period of months to create a method that didn't depict the object in a 2D picture. If the object is alive or a thing that can be eaten, like fruit and even people and other objects, they are transformed into paintings of them. The ephemeral nature of her painting style is evident and the only thing that remains of Alexa Meade's work is the photograph. Because the photography and painting methods are closely coordinated and result in an illusion of trompe l'oeil, that creates the illusion of 3D is only visible at certain places, for example the region around the eyes or hair. Meade often integrates her painted model into the surrounding three-dimensional environment and allows the model to be a part of the context of their own.
