Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television journalist, commentator anchor and commentator for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976 she became a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). The following year, she was a general reporter for NBC News in Washington. Beginning in 1981, she began covering the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. Mitchell was named the chief White House correspondent by NBC News in the year 1992. Mitchell was host and panelists on the TV program Meet the Press. She was on the panel in the 1988 presidential debates between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 from the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 to recognize her efforts in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's very first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. This period included the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell reported on many noteworthy stories such as weapons control, budget taxes and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went to various summits while in the company of President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
